HDPE plastic injection molding stands for high-density polyethylene. HDPE can be pigmented, unpigmented, translucent, colored etc.HDPE has a natural resistance to the solvents, making it a go-to plastic-type for industrial chemicals, cleaning agents, floor cleaners, detergents, and freezing bleaches. It is also used extensively for container pack supplies. HDPE is used in many different high-temperature injection-molded plastic products like the polyethylene food packets that come with the linings of HDPE. Besides, when we go shopping outside, the trolleys in which we carry the products are made up of HDPE. Even the groceries which we hold inside are made up of HDPE. Recycled HDPE is used to make pipes, flower pots, buckets, and many other blow molding plastic products. HDPE can be molded into many hard plastic injection molding products of different shapes and sizes.
Following are some of the important properties of HDPE in high-temperature plastic injection molding:
It has a high density ranging between 0.94 degrees to 0.965 degrees.
It has a higher melting range up to 135 degrees Celsius.
HDPE has very good chemical resistance.
HDPE has high tensile strength, stiffness and is a creep.
HDPE has better abrasion resistance and hardness. It has excellent temperature toughness. It has good thermal stability.
It has good insulation properties.
It is an excellent water vapor barrier.
There are the following applications of HDPE in injection molding in various fields:
In agriculture: drip irrigation drippers, in sprinkler parts and agriculture nets.
In Automotives: used in fuel tanks, decorative covers on car wheels, car door interiors, petrol cans, and caps.
In industry: in gasoline tanks, used in chemical storage tanks, on industrial drums, cable jacketing, etc.
In household applications: grocery bags, corrugated tubes, and pipes, mugs, soap boxes, box strapping, knife handles, fridge bottles, mosquito nets, waste boxes, dust bins, suitcases and handles, laundry buckets, and squeezed bottles.
In packaging: milk and beverage crates, beverage bottles, paint pails, bread trays, bottle caps, woven sacks for fertilizer, and cement packaging.
HDPE is very inexpensive. It has good and impactful resistance. It has low strength and not good for cosmetics. Since HDPE is not hygroscopic, it does not absorb moisture. However, if drying is ever needed, it is recommended to dry the material in a hopper dryer. It is recommended to set the dryer hopper's temperature for the material to be kept as 175 degrees Fahrenheit that is 79 degrees Celsius, for up to two hours depending upon the grain of the material. It is also recommended to keep the melt temperature range between 325 degrees to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Maintaining these temperatures set for high volume plastic injection molding, HDPE can be processed.
