Vacuum casting is a process used for casting elastomers. Under this, the liquid material is drawn into the mold with the help of a vacuum. This process is applied when there are intricate details, or if the material is fiber or wire enforced.
Vacuum casting results in high-quality parts which are suitable for fit and function testing, or a series of final parts in limited quantities. Vacuum casting models can also be finished in various ways and match the requirement for aesthetics as well.
Vacuum casting begins by producing a master model, using a Stereolithography or laser Sintering 3D printing process.
After this, the mold is produced by casting silicone around the master copy, partially under vacuum to avoid air bubbles.
